The Blade of Olympus Sets A New Future

First, Kratos travels back in time to the battle at Rhodes to surprise Zeus and take the Blade of Olympus back. During the fight, Athena interferes to protect her father and takes a fatal blow from the Blade. Before her death, she tells Kratos he is the Son of Zeus and warns him all of Olympus would rally behind the King of the Gods. Kratos, though saddened by Athena's death, merely resolves to kill all of Olympus if that's what it takes.
The Sisters of Fate

As he falls into The Underworld, Kratos sees a vision of Gaia, who restore Kratos' life, allowing him to climb up Hades hands back to the land of the living. Gaia instructs Kratos to find the Sisters of Fate in order to exact revenge on Zeus. Kratos navigates the Island of the Fates, only to discover as he nears his goal- Zeus has destroyed the entire city of Sparta and all its people, as punishment for following Kratos. Fueled with newfound rage by this, Kratos kills the Sisters of Fate when they refuse to help him, then travels back in time...
Death Becomes Him

Kratos resents the Gods for using him and deliberately antagonizes them, leading the armies of Sparta on a conquering spree throughout Greece. Athena tries to stop him, but Kratos refuses to listen. However, When he goes to Rhodes to crush that city, Zeus interferes. He tricks Kratos into draining his godly powers into the Blade of Olympus, then kills him, casting Kratos into the Depths of The Underworld. Zeus had been infected with fear from Pandoras Box when Kratos opened it to destroy Ares. His dark suspicion Kratos would overthrow him was at an all-time high. He knew Kratos must die.
The Gods Will Pay For This

Still haunted by visions of his mortal past, against Athena's advice, Kratos decides to explore his origins. He learns his brother Deimos had been imprisoned by Ares (Zeus feared Deimos was the one foretold to destroy Olympus) and tortured by the God of Death, Thanatos. Entering the Domain of Death, Kratos frees Deimos, but Thanatos intervenes and takes Deimos against his will to Suicide Bluffs. Kratos saves Deimos from his death, who then aids him in destroying Thanatos, but not before Thanatos kills Deimos. Warned not to alienate the Gods, Kratos returns to Olympus promising that "the Gods will pay for this."
Becoming The God of War

After destroying Ares, Kratos is told the truth. The Gods indeed forgive his bloody past, but they never promised to remove his memories, the nightmares that haunt him. Kratos attempts suicide, but is rescued by Athena and told of a greater reward - there is now an empty throne on Olympus. Kratos becomes the new God of War.
Pandora's Box

After ten years of servitude to the Gods, Kratos is given his final task. Ares has attacked the city of Athens, but Zeus has forbidden the Gods from fighting each other. Athena tells Kratos he must kill Ares by using Pandora's Box, the most powerful weapon a mortal can wield. Kratos succeeds, conquering the trap-filled temple that protects the Box and using its powers to kill the God, Ares, who once saved his life.
