A Blood Oath Binded By The Blades of Chaos

One fateful day, Kratos' command is attacked by an immense barbarian horde. His men are rapidly slaughtered and Kratos himself faces his death at the hands of the barbarian king. In this hour of desperation, Kratos begs aid from the patron deity of Sparta - Ares, the God of War. Ares answers, saving Kratos' and his men's lives, obliterating the barbarians, and giving Kratos the Blades of Chaos. In exchange, Kratos becomes Ares' servant.
