For his vicious act, the village Oracle cursed Kratos, binding the ashes of his dead family to his skin; this new pale coating gave rise to Kratos' as, "the Ghost of Sparta" and it made everyone in Greece fear him. Kratos, horrified at this act, is constantly tormented by visions of his dead family. Seeking relief from these nightmares, Kratos pledges himself to the other Olympian Gods, doing their bidding in hopes that they will erase his horrible memories. However, he is still bound to Ares bidding.
